I don't know what to call the places collectively who are with the government and the brokerages to help so I'll call them all agencies.

If you overwhelmed and hope that the agencies who are there to help you might have ideas but your instincts tell you to be very careful, you're right. While almost all of the agency people I met are good people who want my kids to thrive and enjoy life, they are mandatory reporters. They have to follow strict rules that often aren't "real life" friendly.

Often families in the system have coped mostly alone and developed their own dysfunctional unique systems that get them by but how the families are solving problems may not be following rules and those broken rules must be reported by agency people or the agency people could be fired.

Legal situations require people not to talk when the families need the most help.

This is not to say, stay way from getting help but there is a great need for us to address the real fears of agencies and work for change. It's a sad thing when problems turn desperate because of fear. A stitch in time saves nine but don't expect it to work that smoothly.

Make our own agencies, get government money and grants, elect the CEOs like churches get preachers.
Maybe it should be a new religion Grin

Find enough persons who are responsible for themselves (HFA AS) that want to have a community. Once it is functional, it might be possible to have those that will need closer care. Liability might be the biggest problem-someone getting hurt/lost. Maybe retired parents of those ASDs who are older would feel called to help with a site and management. I know I have a lot to offer, but not fully self-sufficient. Mostly money since I lost SSD and can't keep a job. I want to work and would like to use what energy I still have to help future generations of ASD persons. I need organization skills and Lists to follow. Short on imagination and big pictures.

I would like to know where you see the community developing. email is fine as I am not sure I want to put my location on a public board either. I have a house, but may need to sell to solve a problem. It is my only resource in this world. I don't want to be aburden to my children but I guess they could be called a resource too. My daughter might help with grant writing. She has a membership in some scam that is supposed to help with writing them and she is good on her own. It requires a monthly fee, but can start and stop at will (just for time to get help locating who to ask for money and help review papers) or search her book for ideas.

Do you have legal contacts? Some eBooks do very well on clikbank, but probably better way to sell if you think the idea I had is good. I haven't seen anything like it yet. CD rom might be the way to sell it. Lots of technical aspies who could help with the idea. I don't want to explain more here because I think it could be a source of money not to toss out to greedy people. Probably someone working on it already.

What other ideas do you have for income for the community? Maybe RentAGeek type service? Online research? I am doing that for free at Yahoo Answers. As therapy. That respite care idea you gave should pay - sliding fee and grants too. Organic herbs? Grantors like to see a clear plan and how they will benefit without being dependant on grants. Like start up costs maybe. Gathering ideas would be easier on a more active forum, so maybe I should have posted on the other one.

We have talked about a lot of little cottage industries. A little publishing company. A food preparation company that caters to special diets. Anything with animal training... I'd love it!

But mostly, we're envisioning that the community is very good at retreats. There'd be retreat facilities on site. We'd manage them, whether it's a music camp, one week and a medical retreat or dental retreat at other times.

We also want families who need respite to get to know us and feel good about leaving their kids with us when they need a break. Or just coming to the retreat together and having lots of fun together without feeling embarrassed or apologetic.

Maybe we could come up with realistic training session retreats for agency people and teachers. Somebody needs to come up with realistic solutions.

We need to consider buying a place in the spring of next year. The housing prices are supposed to really drop then,
